Towards a New Forum on Global Public Service Media Work

WANTED: Supporters, Hosts and New Partners

Founded in 1962, BaKaFORUM TV and Media Forum has been a meeting point and platform for exchange and cooperation for broadcasters, independent producers as well as cultural, educational and societal organizations interested in quality TV work, global education and development education. Until 2011, an annual conference included sessions, a competition, screenings and workshops.

During his nearly 50 years of existence, BaKaFORUM has contributed to increase international cooperation and hosted the launch of many innovative co-production projects, including the GLOBAL MEDIA EXCHANGE initiative, a project and global movement to share and jointly produce public service content over cultural and geographical boarders. More detailed information on this challenging project, and a pre-screening catalogue of nearly 300 educational and cultural TV programs ready to be exchanged among GLOMEX members, can be found at www.global-media-exchange.org

After a decision taken by the City of Basel to stop their support for the Forum, it is very important to make sure that the professional network related to BaKaFORUM will find a new reference and continuity. Talks have been started with the EBU Science and Education Experts Group, the United Alliance of Civilisations and other possible stakeholders for a new follow up event.
It's all to be re-invented, and the research has just started. Concretely, we are looking for

  • Professional media organizations and other potential stakeholders with a specific interest in developing a global cooperation layer in public service media work
  • Creative public service professionals interested in developing an event profile and management structure
  • Potential host cities and institutions
  • Financial supporters
