Conflicts Between Orient and Occident - A never ending History

The conflict between orient and occident, Muslim and Christian world, has become a global key conflict of our times. The BaKaFORUM 2007 Keynote Speech by Tim Guldimann offers an insight in that ambiguous relation between fear and fascination. Who wants to understand the conflict must not miss that systematic in-depth approach.

Three sources are available:

An audio file of the speech

A PDF with the pictures of the presentation

A text transcript

Of course, you can combine all three of them (or two of them), in order to listen, to watch the pictures and/or to read at the same time.

Tim Guldimann is a professor at Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University, Frankfurt/Main (Germany). During his diplomatic career, he was very much involved in that “oriental-occidental conflict” as a head of OSCE missions in Chechnya (1996-1997) and in Croatia (1997-1999) and as an Ambassador of Switzerland in Teheran 1999-2004.
